BWF World Championships: HS Prannoy’s journey so far
HS Prannoy has emerged as a dark horse in the ongoing BWF World Championships, clinching brilliant wins in his opening two rounds in Madrid. Prannoy clinched a memorable comeback win over Hong Kong’s NG Ka Long Angus 13-21, 21-18, 21-19 in a match that lasted for 71 minutes.
He then followed it up with a convincing 21-7, 21-17 in 42 minutes over Daren Liew of Malaysia to set up a clash with Rasmus Gemke of Denmark. The 11th seed was forced to withdraw from the BWF World Tour Finals and struggled with his fitness.
Against Rasmus Gemke, he started off slowly and lost the first game 16-21. But he pulled up his socks and took the second game with a commanding 21-8 scoreline. But the Danish star wasn’t ready to let go. He came back strongly in the decider. But Prannoy held on to his nerves and clinched the decider 22-20.

“Prannoy has been very impressive so far. Not many would have bet on Prannoy given the tough draw he got. But his opening-round win has given him almost like a second wind and that was on full display against Liew. He absolutely bossed the contest and he will take a lot of confidence from his two displays,” former national coach Vimal Kumar told InsideSport.
