Alex Spiro, Musk’s personal attorney who also assisted with his takeover of Twitter, addressed Mark Zuckerberg in a formal letter raising Twitter’s “serious concerns” about the legality of Threads on the same evening that Meta debuted its new text-based service, as Semafor first reported.

The letter asserts that Meta utilised “Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property” to create Threads, which Insider has corroborated.

Elon Musk, who owns Twitter, took to Twitter to comment to several threads with jabs at Mark Zuckerberg as Meta’s Threads attracted over 30 million sign-ups within about 18 hours after its launch and presented itself as the first big competitor to Twitter.

The new social networking app, which was supposed to debut on Thursday, was made accessible for download on Wednesday night in 100 different nations. In his first few hours on the platform, Zuckerberg stated that he wanted to turn Threads into a “friendly” community with eventually over a billion users—an chance, according to Zuckerberg, that Musk missed for Twitter.

Analysts claimed that investors were drooling at the prospect of Threads’ connections to Instagram providing it with a built-in user base and advertising infrastructure. That might steal advertising dollars away from Twitter, whose new CEO is attempting to turn around the failing operations of the microblogging startup.

While Threads launched as a standalone app, users could log in using their Instagram credentials and follow the same accounts, potentially making it an easy addition to existing habits for Instagram’s more than 2 billion monthly active users.

Elon Musk wasn’t very happy about the ongoing situation as he tweeted “ I spent $44 for this app and now Lizard boy just decided to hit copy and paste.”

Elon seems to have gotten banned from threads.

Elon replied to Rosa Maria’s comment on Twitter with “We fight in the courtroom if needed”. When she asked him if the cage fight would take place first or the fight in the courtroom.

Meta stock closed up 3% on Wednesday ahead of the launch, outpacing gains by competitor tech companies as the broader market edged down.

Threads’ arrival comes after Zuckerberg and Musk have traded barbs for months and even threatened to fight each other in a real-life mixed martial arts cage match in Las Vegas.

The timing is opportune for Meta to land a blow, as months of Musk’s chaotic decision-making have roiled Twitter.
