Leading the charge! Manu Bhaker single handedly revamps Indian shooting in Paris Olympics

Paris Olympics: Manu Bhaker single handedly revamps Indian Shooting contingent by winning 2 bronze medals in Paris Olympics

Talk about leaving a major mark in the sports. Manu Bhaker has exactly done that in Indian shooting. The 22-year old bagged two medals in Paris Olympics to etch her name in the history books. She became the only India to win multiple Olympic medals at a single Olympics.

Out of the 21 athletes from Indian shooting contingent, Manu Bhaker is one of the three athletes to bag a medal in Paris. In fact out of the three medals, she has won two. A bronze medal in the singles women’s 10 m Air Pistol finals. And another bronze in the 10 m Air pistol mixed doubles with Sarabjot Singh. India’s third bonze came via Swapnil Kusale who won in the 50 m Rifle 3 positions.

Manu Bhaker revamps Indian Shooting

It is safe to say that the youngster has revamped Indian shooting at the grand Stage. She participated in three shooting events and went on to win two medals. She narrowly missed out on a potential silver in the 25 m Pistol finals. She started off well and consolidated her 2nd spot. But a couple of loose shots saw her slipping to the 4th spot and eventually missing out on a hat-trick of Paris Olympics medals.

The other 20 athletes in comparison has been rather sub par. Sarabjot Singh lost out on his individual round, but got a bronze when paired up with Manu Bhaker. Swapnil Kusale did fair well in the 50m Rifle 3 positions finals.

But in a large contingent, the burden of leading the charge shouldn’t essentially rely on a 22-year old. She rose to the occasion when others like Arjun Cheema, Arjun Babuta, Prithviraj Tondaiman failed. Elavenil Valarivan too fought well in the qualifiers of the 10m Air Pistol round but then squandered her place to reach the finals.
