After losing the last two editions of the Laver Cup, Team Europe has decided to return to their winning ways. To make their bid for the Laver Cup 2024 in Berlin, the Bjorn Borg-led team has roped in Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, and Carlos Alcaraz.
This will be Alcaraz’s first Laver Cup, while Medvedev (2021) and Zverev (2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021) will be returning to the Roger Federer-backed tournament.
Team Europe had dominated the first four editions of the Laver Cup, with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic all participating multiple times. However, their dominance ended in 2022, with Federer retiring from the sport and the other members of the Big 4 not wanting to return in the following season.
Team Europe suffered a humiliating 13-2 defeat in the 2023 edition. However, the Bjorn Borg-captained side is now trying to turn things around by roping in three top-10 players for the Laver Cup 2024.
Each team (Europe and the World) has six players in their squad who play both singles and doubles. So far, only three players have been announced for the competition that will be played in September in Berlin.
