Playing a competitive game after nearly two months, Djokovic looked at his best as he defeated Frances Tiafoe, who reached the semifinals at the US Open, 6-1, 6-3 to give Team Europe a lead in the contest. Immediately after his match Djokovic spoke about Roger Federer, calling the night yesterday as one of the most beautiful moments he witnessed ever.  “I was just very grateful really and privileged to be alongside other Team World and Team Europe players to witness that. It was one of the most beautiful moments I witnessed ever in my life for sure.”

“What got me most emotional was when his children came up, I saw them tearing up. Sorry Roger, I don’t want to tear you up again, but it was a beautiful moment and it was nice to see Roger’s parents here in London, Mirka, kids and everyone here in London, who has been such instrumental part of his life and career,” he added.

During his farewell speech, Roger Federer thanked his wife and parents for playing a big role in his life that made him play all these years and crediting it, Djokovic added, “I empathize with Roger because I understand exactly what is necessary in order for you to be on the tour for such a long time.”

“We wouldn’t be able to do that without the support of the closest ones and he said it beautifully yesterday that his wife Mirka and closest people in his life allowed him to be able to play at such an incredible level for so many years,” he added.

“I know I am talking too much but much love to Federer,” he said, adding “There’s a lot I want to say, I haven’t been on the Tour for a while. We can’t get enough of the moment what we witnessed yesterday.”

Djokovic and Federer too shared some great rivalry in Tennis. Both the players have met 50 times in their career with the Serbian winning 27 matches. They last played at the semifinals of the  Australian Open in 2020 with Djokovic winning the contest in straight sets. The 35-year old is currently leading Team Europe after the retirement of Federer and the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal.
