Lausanne Diamond League: India’s history maker Neeraj Chopra will return to action this weekend in the Lausanne Diamond League. A gold medallist at the Tokyo Olympics, Chopra had to miss out on the Commonwealth Games due to injury denying him the chance to add to his honours. Neeraj Chopra was ruled out of the Commonwealth Games earlier this month due to an injury suffered in the World Athletics Championships in Oregon. The 24-year-old was diagnosed with a “minor” groin strain and advised a month’s rest after winning a historic silver.
He was named as one of the participants for the Lausanne Diamond League meet, and an official confirmation of his return soon followed. Chopra posted a photo with a smile one his face. He captioned it ‘Feeling strong and ready for Friday. Thanks for the support, everyone. See you in Lausanne’

Chopra was in great form before his injury, marking his personal best of 89.94m in Oregon. The throw was significantly further than what won him the Tokyo Olympics medal, but not enough to seal the gold at the Worlds. The 24-year-old now full fit will once again aim to breach the 90m mark and finish on the podium.
The Indian athlete will however face stiff competition with the likes of Jakub Vadlejch, Curtis Thompson and Keshorn Walcott. Chopra nonetheless has the second-best throw this season among the eight participants and will fancy his chances to bag a medal. Incidentally, Vadlejch won the silver medal in Tokyo Olympics but bettered it with gold at the World Athletics Championship.
