Korea Masters Badminton: The entire Indian badminton contingent has pulled out of the upcoming Korea Masters 2022 tournament that is scheduled to kick start on 12th April, Tuesday. The decision comes after the Badminton Association of India (BAI) has decided to conduct selection trials for the upcoming Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Thomas & Uber Cup between 15th and 20th April at Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi. Confirming the news on the Indian players’ withdrawal, speaking to InsideSport.IN, Pullela Gopichand, Vice President of the BAI said, “I don’t think the Indians will be participating in the upcoming Korean Masters. They will be attending the selection trials.”

After the Korean Open last week the Indian players were about to participate in the Korean Masters, which is a BWF Super 300 tournament. India’s ace shuttler Kidambi Srikanth was the top seed in the event and also players like Parupalli Kashyap, Ashwini Ponnappa, Sikki Reddy, Malavika Bansod were all set to participate.
But with important events coming up, the BAI has decided to conduct the 5-day trial camp to pick teams for the Thomas & Uber Cup, Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games.

CWG Selection Trials: The selection trials will see the participation of Indian shuttlers ranked between 16 to 50 in the latest world rankings, while the players within the Top 15, that include PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen and the men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are assured of a place in the team for the big-ticket events.
Thomas and Uber Cup are scheduled to be held in Bangkok from 8th to 15th May. Commonwealth Games and Asian Games are slated to be held in Birmingham and Hangzhou China from July 28 and September 10 respectively.
