India’s Kidambi Srikanth reached the quarterfinals of the Macau Open 300 after defeating compatriot Ayush Shetty on Thursday. The 31-year-old won in straight games (21-13, 21-18). Srikanth will now face Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka Long in the quarterfinals.
Earlier, Srikanth defeated Israel’s Daniil Dubovenko 21-14, 21-15 in the men’s singles round of 32. Ayush Shetty had advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating Alap Mishra 21-13, 21-5.
Easy win for Treesa-Gayatri
In women’s doubles, India’s Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand secured a comfortable victory, winning in straight games (22-20, 21-11) against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chin-Chun and C.H. Teng.
Disappointing results in women’s doubles
India’s Tasnim Mir had a tough exit from the tournament, losing to Japan’s T. Miyazaki (21-17, 13-21, 10-21) in the women’s singles. In mixed doubles, N. Sikki Reddy and B. Sumeeth Reddy were eliminated in the Round of 16, losing to Malaysia’s T.C. Woon and C.S. Lim (17-21, 14-21).
