Japan Open Badminton LIVE: After the BWF World Championships, the BWF tour is all set to continue as the Japan Open will get underway from 30 August 2022. It will be the 16th tournament on the BWF tour this year and the Super 750 tournament is making its return after a two-year hiatus as thelast two editions were not held due to Covid-9 pandemic. Indians in action : 

The tournament will see India’s top badminton stars like Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy and Saina Nehwal. PV Sindhu has been seeded as the seventh seed but it remains to be seen whether she would be full fit as she is recovering from an ankle injury. Men’s doubles pair MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila and women’s duo Treesa Jolly, Gayatri Gopichand are also part of the to name a few. Totally 15 Indian players are expected to be in action.

Men’s Singles 

In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen is scheduled to begin his campaign by facing Kenta Nishimoto in the first round. He is unseeded in the tournament and is in the same quarter that has second seed Kento Momota. The other seeded player in his quarter is Jonathan Cristie who is the seventh seed. Both the players are likely to face each other in the second round.

Srikanth Kidambi meanwhile faces a tough first round contest as he will be up against Lee Zii Jia who is the fifth seed. Meanwhile, HS Prannoy who reached the quarterfinal at the World Championships will face Angus Ng Ka Long in the opening round. Prannoy is placed in the quarter that has eighth seed Loh Kean Yew and fourth seed Chou Tien Chen.

Women’s Singles 

If PV Sindhu misses the tournament, Saina Nehwal will be the only woman representing India in the Japan Open. Saina Nehwal faces a tough challenge in the first round as she will take on top seed Akane Yamugachi. Sixth seed Nozomi Okuhara is also present in this quarter of the draw.

In the Men’s Doubles MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will face Choi Sol-gyu and Kim Won-ho in the opening round. In the same quarter, Krishnaprasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala are also present and they will face France’s Popov brothers in the first round.

In the Women’s doubles Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam will begin their campaign by facing Baek Ha-na and Lee Yu-rim in the opening round. While, Treesa Jolly and Gyatri Gopichand will face Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai in the first round.

In the mixed doubles, Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan will face top seed Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong in the opening round. They are the only Indian pair in the Mixed doubles.
