Japan Open 2023: Following the Korea Open. the Asian leg of the BWF Tour is set to continue with the Japan Open. The Super 750 event will see the return of big names like Viktor Axelsen, Anthony Ginting and Akane Yamaguchi to the tour. India’s Men’s Doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are entering the tournament after their Korea Open win. They are the third seed. HS Prannoy is the only other seeded player from India. The tournament is all set to get underway from 25th July 2023, Tuesday. The matches will be played at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium, Tokyo. Check All you need to know about the Japan Open 2023.

Men’s Singles
HS Prannoy is the only seeded player in Men’s Singles. Prannoy lost in the second round at the Korea Open last week. He will be keen to put on a much improved show this year. He is in the first quarter of the draw and will face China’s Li Shi Feng in the opening.
If he advances to the second round, he is likely to face compatriot Kidambi Srikanth. World No.20 Srikanth bowed out from the first round at Korea Open last week. He faces a togh challenge against World No.7 Chou Tien Chen in the first round.
Lakshya Sen, who is currently ranked World No.12 will face fellow compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat in the first round. Lakshya Sen faced first round defeat at Korea Open, while Rajawat bowed out from the second round. Whoever wins the contest will face either second seed Anthony Ginting or Kanta Tsuneyama in the second round.
Mithun Manjunath will also be in action in the tournament. The unseeded Indian is in the second quarter of the draw. He faces unseeded Chinese Weng Hong Yang in the opening round.
Women’s Singles
PV Sindhu is seeking redemption after underwhelming performances in the tour. She has suffered six first round exits in the season so far and has slipped down to 17th in the world rankings. The unseeded Indian will face China’s Zhang Yi Man in the first round. If Sindhu advances to second round, she might face fourth seed Tai Tzu Ying.
Aakarshi Kashyap and Malvika Bansod are the other two players in Women’s SIngles. Kashyap is in the first quarter and she begins her campaign against top seed Akane Yamaguchi. Bansod meanwhile faces Japan’s Aya Ohoti in the opening round.
Men’s Doubles
India’s Men’s Doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty who are currently World No.2 are eyeing their third successive title in the tour. They will begin their campaign by facing Indonesia’s Leo Carnando and Daniel Marthin.
The only other seeded player in their quarter is Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin and Teo Eee Yi. They are the sixth seed and are likely to face the Indian duo in the quarterfinal.
MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will also get their campaign underway in the Men’s Singles. The unseeded duo will be up against fourth seeded Malaysians Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia.
Women’s Doubles
Following their exit from the second round at Korea Open, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will get their campaign underway at the Japan Open. The unseeded duo will be the only pair from India in Women’s Doubles.
They will face unseeded Japanese duo Sayaka Hobara and Yui Suizu in the opening round. The World No.19 pair are present in the first quarter that has top seeded Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan. They are likely to set up clash against Indonesia’s sixth seeds Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Ramadhanti in the second round.
Mixed Doubles
In the Mixed Doubles, Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy are the only Indian pair. They have made successive second round appearances in their last two tournaments at Chinese Taipei and Korea. The unseeded duo aims for a much better show.
They will take on Chinese Taipei’s unseeded Ye Hong-wei and Lee Chia-hsin in the first round.
