Jannik Sinner set to become first Italian World No. 1, 29th overall in men’s tennis

Prior to August 2023, Sinner had never claimed a major title or an ATP Masters 1000 trophy. However, since then, he has amassed a staggering six titles.

Jannik Sinner is on the cusp of achieving a historic feat – becoming the first-ever Italian player to reach No. 1 in the ATP Rankings. This will be officially reflected on the rankings list on June 10th, 2024.

Overall, he will be the 29th player in the men’s tennis history to achieve this feat.

Meteoric rise to top for Jannik Sinner

The 22-year-old Italian has enjoyed a phenomenal start to 2024. He began the year ranked No. 4, but a series of impressive victories propelled him towards the top spot.

These include his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, a prestigious Masters 1000 win in Miami, and reaching the semi-finals at both Indian Wells and Monte-Carlo.

Jannik Sinner’s ascent hasn’t been by chance. Looking at the past year, his record against Top 10 opponents is a remarkable 14-3.

Even more impressive, he has secured victories against current and former World No. 1s including Novak Djokovic (3 times), Daniil Medvedev (5 times), and Carlos Alcaraz (once).

From Zero to Hero: Trophy Haul in One Year

Prior to August 2023, Sinner had never claimed a major title or an ATP Masters 1000 trophy. However, since then, he has amassed a staggering six titles.

This includes Masters 1000 wins in both Toronto and Miami, his Grand Slam victory in Melbourne, and triumphs at ATP 500 events in Beijing, Vienna, and Rotterdam.

Jannik Sinner becomes only the second player born in the 2000s to reach the pinnacle of men’s tennis, joining the ranks of Carlos Alcaraz.

Currently the second seed at Roland Garros, Sinner is still in contention for his first French Open title. He will face either Carlos Alcaraz or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the upcoming semi-finals.
