As reported by InsideSport earlier, the Indian doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who have been out of action since the Paris Olympics, are all set to get Tan Kim Her as their new coach. After Denmark’s Mathias Boe left in July, the duo did not have a coach, and have not played a tournament since, due to injury concern.
Satwik-Chirag Get “New-Old” Coach
Tan Kim Her would also overlook the development of other Indian doubles teams too. It must be reminded, that during his previous stint, the Malaysian played a crucial role in bringing Satwik-Chirag duo together, who had different partners earlier.
Meanwhile, as per another report in the Times of India, Tan will get a monthly remuneration of USD 10,000, which is more than what Mathias Boe got. As far as his credentials go, he played a significant part in Japan team’s success, where he overlooked the men’s doubles department.
Having said that, it is still not clear, as to when Tan will join the Indian team, and when Satwik-Chirag will be back on the court. Back in the day, he also oversaw the growth of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy, along with Sikki and Pranaav Jerry Chopra.
Challenges for Tan Kim Her
The Indian badminton is at an all time low. Except for Satwik-Chirag, there isn’t a single pair that can be truly called world-class. Yes, in women’s doubles there is Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, but the duo have struggled in the last year. Then Tanisha Crasto, whose partner Ashwini retired, will have to come up with a fresh partner.
He will also have to make sure that there are regular camps that are happening for the players who are in the national reckoning. That is something that has been completely missing for the star Indian players.
