Italian medal winning swimmer Thomas Ceccon was found sleeping in the lawns of the Paris Olympics Village. The photo of the athlete taking a nap outdoors went viral after he had raised complaints about bad air conditioning in the accommodation in the Village. Ceccon won the gold medal in men’s 100m backstroke and a bronze in Men’s 400m freestyle relay.

Federation says just an ‘afternoon nap’
However, the country’s swimming federation (FIN) quickly reacted to the incident and brushed aside of the action having to do anything with the complaints raised before. FIN clarified that Ceccon was taking an afternoon nap. It added that the footage, shot by Saudi Arabia rower Husein Alireza, was filmed during the day.
What were Ceccon’s complaints?
“There is no air conditioning in the village, it’s hot, the food is bad. Many athletes move for this reason: it’s not an alibi or excuse, it’s the reality of what perhaps not everyone knows,” Ceccon had said on July 31.
