Rome Masters without Russian and Belarusian players? – If the Italian authority confirms the case for ban, the upcoming Masters 1000 event in Rome will be played without Russian players. While Daniil Medvedev will be the biggest miss, the likes of Andrey Rublev, Aryna Sabalenka, and Victoria Azarenka will all miss the tournament in the wake of Russia and Ukraine war.

However, for Daniil Medvedev, the ban won’t be a big problem as he is already out for at least a couple of months with hernia surgery.

Wimbledon faces criticism – Wimbledon faced huge criticism on Thursday after they decided to ban the Russian and Belarusian players. The decision was highly criticised by former and current stars of the tennis world

While Andy Murray jumped into the matters and defended his county’s decision. The All England Lawn Tennis Association was defended by the former star, stating that he agrees with decision made by the association.

Russian star Rublev criticises the decision – Rublev criticized the decision this week, saying at the Serbian Open –“What is happening now is complete discrimination against us. The reasons they gave us had no sense, they were not logical.”

The Russian further added, “Banning Russian or Belarusian players… will not change anything.

“To give all the prize money would have a more positive effect to humanitarian help, to the families who are suffering, to the kids who are suffering.

“I think that would do something. Tennis will, in that case, be the first and only sport who donates that amount of money and it will be Wimbledon so they take all the glory.”

The situation now remains to be seen as players are  gearing up for the upcoming French Open while Madrid Open and Rome Open will serve as the perfect warm-up, but Russian and Belarusian players face limbo situation.
