Indonesia Open LIVE – Sindhu, Praneeth enters Last 8: India’s top badminton player PV Sindhu sealed her birth in the quarter-finals with a stunning straight-sets win over Germany’s Yvonne Li on Thursday. Another Indian in fray for the last 8 spot, Kidambi Srikanth lost to World No.2 & Olympic champion Victor Axelsen of Denmark in straight sets to bow out of the tournament. Axelsen won the match 21-14, 21-18 in just 37 minutes without much trouble.

Praneeth defeated France’s Christo Popov 21-17, 14-21, 21-19 in a match that lasted 83 minutes on Court 2. The Indian shuttler won the first game. However, the French opponent staged a remarkable comeback in the second but again went down in the third.

Two-time Olympic medallist and star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu also sailed into the quarter-finals after defeating German badminton player Yvonne Li 21-12, 21-18 in 37 minutes to clinch the match.

The men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also entered the quarter-finals after defeating South Korea’s Kang Minhyuk and Seo Seungjae 21-15, 19-21, 23-21.

The men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty on Thursday entered the quarter-finals of the ongoing Indonesia Open.

The Indian duo defeated South Korea’s Kang Minhyuk and Seo Seungjae 21-15, 19-21, 23-21 in a match that lasted 75 minutes on Court 2. Earlier in the day, two-time Olympic medallist and star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu also sailed into the quarter-finals after defeating German badminton player Yvonne Li 21-12, 21-18 in 37 minutes to clinch the match.

Game 3: Satwik & Chirag beat Kang Minhyuk & Seo 23-21 in the final set as the duo kept calm after a 21-21 tie.

Game 2: Kang Minhyuk & Seo fights back in the dying moments of the game with a 21-19 scoreline to take the match to the third set.

  • The reigning world champion, seeded third here, hardly broke a sweat to win the second-round clash 21-12, 21-18 against the world No. 26 in 37 minutes at the USD 850,000 event.
  • Up against Li for the first time, world No. 7 Sindhu looked completely in control from the beginning.
  • Such was her dominance that the two-time Olympic medallist took the first game with ease, winning seven consecutive points at one stage.
  • Li made a good recovery in the second game and it was more evenly contested. But Sindhu persisted and did not let the German gain an advantage over her.
  • Sindhu will take on the winner of the second-round clash between Spaniard Beatriz Corrales and South Korea’s Sim Yujin in the quarterfinals.

  • Srikanth will face Axelsen for record 10th time in their career.
  • Axelsen leads Srikanth 7-2 in Head-to-Head encounters. The duo had last met each other in Thomas Cup.
  • He can take inspiration from HS Prannoy who only last week defeated the Olympic champion Dane. Prannoy had outplayed Axelsen in straight sets at Indonesia Masters.
