  • Lakshya Sen: World number nine Lakshya Sen, who defeated Denmark’s Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus in straight sets in the first round, continued his form in the second round as he sailed past Rasmus Gemke 21-18, 21-15 to book a spot in the quarterfinals. 
  • PV Sindhu: After making a semifinal exit in the Thailand Open, double Olympic medallist Sindhu had a tricky opening round against Line Christophersen of Denmark. She defeated the Dane 18-21, 21-15, 21-11. She will now take on Indonesia’s Gregoria Tunjung in the second round. 

Pull Outs 

  • HS Prannoy: India’s Thomas Cup winner Prannoy was about to face Danish man Rasmus Gemke in the first round. Prannoy defeated Gemke in the must-win third singles in the Thomas Cup semifinals. However, Prannoy has decided to give the tournament a miss citing workload management. 
  • P.Kashyap: Drawn in the top-half, Kashyap too pulled out of the tournament at the last-minute. He was about to face Tzu Wei Wang in the first round. He was placed in the same quarter that had Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen.
  • Saina Nehwal, who had the posiibility of running into Carolina Marin in the second round of the Super Series 500 event, starting Tuesday too pulled out of the competition.
