Abhinav Bindra, India’s inaugural individual Olympic gold medallist, has been chosen as a torchbearer for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games scheduled from July 26 to August 11. Bindra, who clinched gold in the men’s 10m air rifle at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, will partake in the Olympic torch relay, set to occur from April 16 to July 26.
Expressing his excitement, Bindra stated on social media, “Excited to share that I’ll be a torchbearer for the @paris2024 Olympic Games, a beacon of peace and perseverance across the globe. This flame represents our collective spirit and the power of dreams. A great privilege and honour!”
The Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Relay commences its journey in France on May 8, 2024. The flame, ignited near Olympia in Greece, will embark on a sea voyage aboard the Belem, a three-masted ship, crossing the Mediterranean from Athens to Marseille. Covering 65 territories, including five overseas territories, and involving 10,000 torchbearers, the relay will last 68 days and visit 400 cities.
Bindra, also a member of the International Olympic Committee’s Athletes Commission, reflects the embodiment of sporting excellence as he contributes to this prestigious event celebrating the global spirit of the Olympic Games.
