Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Sanjay Singh has informed that the selection trials for the Paris Olympics will take place on June 10. So far, five women and one male competitor have secured quota spots. The WFI president offered clarity on the date of the trials in response to the discussion over the final squad for the marquee event.
WFI to hold trails for Paris Olympics on June 10
“Selection trials will be held on June 10. It will be in the format as given in our policy where a challenger will be selected from the top four eligible wrestlers and there will be three bouts with the quota winner. The quota winner will have to win once while he gets two opportunities if he loses to the challenger,” he told Hindustan Times.
As per WFI policy, the format will involve a challenger selected from the top four eligible wrestlers competing against the quota winner in a series of three bouts. The quota winner must secure victory once, while the challenger will have two opportunities if they initially fail.
At the World Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers in Istanbul, Turkey, Aman Sehrawat secured India’s first quota place in the men’s 57kg category for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Sehrawat clinched victory in the semifinals, defeating North Korea’s Chongsong Han 12-2.
