As is usually the case in India, the coach or the support staff is given the marching orders on or two bad performances, especially in sports other than cricket. But despite Indian women’s hockey team’s failure to secure Paris 2024 berth at the Asian Qualifiers, head coach Janneke Schopman might be safe for now.
Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey, made it clear that Schopman is here to stay. Talking to NNIS, he said, “We are not thinking along those lines for now. We have important tournaments coming up, like the FIH Pro League, where we have qualified for the first time. The world’s best eight teams will be there, and it is time to focus on that only.”
FIH Pro Hockey League
Despite the failure, the Indian team has a lot to look forward to, as they play their FIH Pro Hockey League matches in early February, in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. Apart from India, also in the fray will be the likes of the Netherlands, Argentina, Great Britain, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Ireland and Spain.
