Indian Women’s Archery Team misses out on Paris Olympics team quota in Antalya

India, currently ranked eighth in the world for women's teams, still has a chance to qualify through the world rankings.

The Indian women’s recurve archery team led by Deepika Kumari fell short of securing a team quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics at the Final World Quota Tournament in Antalya, Turkey.

Second Round Loss

Despite a promising start, the Indian team, seeded fifth, were knocked out in the round of 16. After taking an early 3-1 lead against Ukraine, they stumbled in the following sets to fall 5-3 to the 12th seeds.

Veronika Marchenko, a former European champion, led the Ukrainian charge alongside Anastasia Pavlova and Olha Chebotarenko.

Paris Olympic quotas up for grabs

Only teams reaching the semi-finals of the women’s recurve team event secured a coveted quota for their nation. While India missed out, they will have another opportunity for individual quotas in the women’s competition on Sunday.

Hope remains through World Rankings

India, currently ranked eighth in the world for women’s teams, still has a chance to qualify through the world rankings.

The top two teams per gender, as of June 24th, who haven’t secured a quota through other means, will qualify for the Paris Games.

Men’s Team in action

The Indian men’s archery team, comprising Pravin Jadhav, Tarundeep Rai, and Dhiraj Bommadevara, will be in action on Saturday, aiming to secure one of the three team quotas available in the men’s recurve event.
