Ten specially trained dogs and their handlers from India’s Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and commando forces have arrived in France to support security for the upcoming Paris Olympics. These K9 units will be responsible for sniffing and patrolling duties at various Olympic venues.
Intense training
This deployment marks the first-ever collaboration between Indian and French security forces involving canine squads. The ten teams underwent a rigorous 10-week training programme specifically designed for the Olympics. The dogs, primarily Belgian Malinois breeds known for their exceptional tracking and detection abilities, were selected after stringent testing at the CRPF dog breeding and training school in Karnataka.
Popular choice
The Belgian Malinois is a popular choice for security forces worldwide due to its intelligence, strength, and ability to detect explosives and suspicious individuals silently. The Indian canine teams’ handlers have also received specialised training, including refresher physical training and a basic French language course to facilitate communication during the deployment.
