“So close, yet so far” is the better way to describe the Indian hockey team, who were so close to entering the finals of the Paris Olympics men’s hockey event but could not make it. A goal in the 7th minute of the game built trust among hockey fans that the game was theirs, but the German comeback, with three goals, clinched the game for them. India missed Amit Rohidas, who was serving a one-game ban, and missed a few opportunities that came at crucial moments. As a result, India missed the chance for gold.
India last played in the finals in the 1980 Moscow Olympics, and since then, there has been no presence of the Indian hockey team in finals. However, they failed to capitalize on their chances. Soon after the game finished, the internet reactions ranged from crying to supporting the Indian team for their impeccable run and giving a boost for the bronze medal game.
