Indian fencer Karan Singh Gurjar from Rajasthan on Saturday moved one step closer to scripting history when he beat Musa Aymuratov of Uzbekistan to reach the final of Olympic Qualifiers Men’s Sabre. Karan, who was up against the second seed, produced an upset by beating Aymuratov 15-14.
Since beginning his journey in 2010, the 24-year-old has witnessed a steady progression from the cadet to the junior and ultimately the senior sections. He is currently India’s top-ranked fencer in the men’s sabre division. On Saturday he once again proved why he is rated so highly when he took on second seed Musa Aymuratov of Uzbekistan.
The game went neck to neck but Karan Singh showed no signs of nervousness in spite of being the underdog. When the game went deep, Karan calmly picked up the win over his more experienced opponent.
