Indian challenge ends in Australia Open 2025 as Rohan Bopanna bows out in mixed doubles QF

Rohan Bopanna and Shuai Zhang's run ends in Australian Open 2025 mixed doubles quarters, marking India's exit after challenging matches and early round exits.

The Australian Open 2025 saw the end of the Indian campaign on Tuesday, January 21, as veteran tennis player Rohan Bopanna bowed out in the mixed doubles quarterfinals. Teaming up with China’s Shuai Zhang, Bopanna faced a challenging match against Australia’s John Peers and Olivia Gadecki. The exciting contest took place at Kia Arena in Melbourne Park, in Melbourne.

Super tie-breaker ends Indian challenge

Despite a strong showing throughout the match, Bopanna and Zhang ultimately lost in a super tie-breaker, with the final scores reading 2-6, 6-4, 11-9. The duo had a match-point opportunity but couldn’t capitalise, letting the Australian pair, buoyed by local support, snatch victory from their hands. Bopanna was in excellent form, delivering powerful serves and precise single-handed backhand winners. However, crucial moments in the game swung the other way, with Bopanna and Zhang unable to maintain their tempo when it mattered most.
