India women’s team enters quarterfinals in Archery, Ankita Bhakat shines on Olympic debut

India's women's archery team will be looking to build on their strong start and aim for a podium finish at the Paris Olympics.

India’s women’s archery team has made a strong start to their Paris Olympics campaign, securing a place in the quarterfinals. The team’s performance was highlighted by the impressive debut of Ankita Bhakat, who finished an impressive 11th in the individual ranking round.

The individual ranking round is supposed to provide seeding for the athletes. There are six rounds in the individual competitions: first round (1/32), second round (1/16), third round (1/8), quarterfinals, semifinals and finals (bronze and gold medal matches).

Strong Start by Indian Women’s Archery Team

The women’s archery competition kicked off with the ranking round, where athletes compete to determine their seeding for the subsequent head-to-head matches. India’s trio of Deepika Kumari, Bhajan Kaur, and Ankita Bhakat took to the range with the aim of securing a strong position.

Ankita Bhakat stellar Olympics debut in Paris 2024

Ankita Bhakat, making her Olympic debut, stole the show with a remarkable performance. She finished in 11th place with a total score of 666 out of a possible 720, a personal best for the season. Her consistent accuracy and composure under pressure were evident throughout the round.

India storm into Quarterfinals

The combined efforts of Deepika Kumari, scoring 658/720 (23rd), Bhajan Kaur – 659/720 (22nd), and Ankita Bhakat propelled the Indian women’s team to fourth place in the overall rankings. This outstanding achievement secured their place in the quarterfinals, where they will face a tough challenge against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
