India to take on Pakistan in away tie at Davis Cup 2024 World Group I Play-Offs

In the seven India vs Pakistan clashes that have taken place at the Davis Cup so far, the former have won all.

After a great outing against Morocco recently, where they won 4-1, India is all set to face Pakistan in an away tie at the Davis Cup 2024 World Group I Play-Offs, as per the draw ceremony by ITF in London. Pakistan, as the host nation holds the right to select the surface, and the dates of the tie.

Earlier this month, in Rohan Bopanna’s last Davis Cup tie, India had thrashed Morocco, while on the other hand, Pakistan had beaten Indonesia 5-0 in the World Group II tie. Courtesy of these wins, both India and Pakistan have qualified for the World Group I play-offs. As per the Davis Cup format, the winning nations from World Group I play-offs will play in the World Group I matches in September 2024, against the losing nations from Qualifiers.

The losing nations from the World Group I play-offs, meanwhile, will be up against winners from the World Group II play-offs. Lastly, the losers in the latter will compete in the Regional Group III.

No Neutral Venues

The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) on Thursday made it clear that it won’t agree to shift its home tie to a neutral venue this time. PTF President Salim Saifullah Khan said they will host India on grass court. “They should come to Pakistan. It’s not fair that they do not come to Pakistan. The Indian team is much better than us. We have a beautiful hotel just across the stadium. If Indians come it will send a good message that we are good neighbours,” Saifullah Khan told PTI.

“We have hosted Lithuania, Slovakia, Korea, Iran, and Thailand. All these countries have come and there have been no issues. We won’t play on a neutral venue. If India does not want to come, we will not play this tie. We will play on grass courts and the Indians are a better team. And in February-March, the weather is lovely in Islamabad,” Saifullah said.
