India to bid for 2030 Youth Olympics, confirms Sports Minister

If successful, the 2030 Youth Olympics could be a significant milestone in India’s journey towards hosting the 2036 Olympic Games.

India has officially announced its intention to submit a bid for the 2030 Youth Olympics. This was confirmed by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya during the 44th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The decision reflects India’s growing ambition to cement its place in the global sporting arena, with the ultimate goal of hosting the 2036 Olympics.

Mandaviya emphasised the country’s long-term vision for international sporting recognition. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are going to bid for the 2030 Youth Olympics, but our focus remains on hosting the 2036 Olympics,” Mandaviya stated as per PTI.

His remarks underscore India’s strategic planning for the future, aiming to secure both the Youth Olympics and later, the main Olympic Games.

Bidding for 5th edition of Youth Olympics

The 2030 Youth Olympics, which will be the fifth edition of the event, has already sparked significant global interest. India will face stiff competition as it vies for hosting rights against several countries, including Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Thailand, Mongolia, Russia, Ukraine, Bosnia, and Herzegovina.

Winning this bid would further enhance India’s reputation as a host for prestigious international sporting events.

Proven Track record of hosting mega events?

BJP President JP Nadda, who was the chief guest at the OCA General Assembly, highlighted India’s successful history of hosting major international sports events. He credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for this success. “Under Modiji’s leadership, we have been able to host multiple international sporting events, including the Cricket World Cups and the FIFA U-17 World Cup,” Nadda said.

India’s announcement to bid for the Youth Olympics shows the country’s growing confidence and capability to host large-scale sporting events, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening its global sporting stature. If successful, the 2030 Youth Olympics could be a significant milestone in India’s journey towards hosting the 2036 Olympic Games.
