India to begin final prep for Hockey Asian Champions Trophy with 100th Anniversary tourney in Spain

Ahead of the Hockey Asian Champions Trophy, Indian Men's team will be in action in the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation tournament. This event will serve as the final preparation for the Men in Blue before the Asian Champions Trophy gets underway in Chennai.

Ahead of the Hockey Asian Champions Trophy, Indian Men’s team will be in action in the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation tournament. The Harmanpreet Singh led side will be one among the four teams to feature in the tournament that will get underway from 25th July, Tuesday. This event will serve as the final preparation ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy for the Men in Blue.

Meanwhile, the Indian Women’s Team will also be one among the three teams to be in action in Spain. For the Savita Punia-led side, this tournament will serve as a warm-up ahead of the Asian Games.

100th anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation – Men’s event

India is set to compete against formidable opponents like England, Spain and Netherlands in the tournament. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against Spain on July 25, and then will compete against the Netherlands on July 26th. India will face off against England on July 28 in their final match of the round-robin stage. The Final of the tournament will be played on July 30.

Following the tournamet, India is set to return back to home for the Hockey Asian Champions Trophy. The tournament will get underway from 3rd August 2023.

  • July 25, Tuesday: India vs Spain – 11:30 PM
  • July 26, Wednesday: India vs Netherlands – 9:30 PM
  • July 28, Friday: India vs England – 4:30 PM
  • July 30, Sunday: 3/4 playoff match (If India qualify) – 4:30 PM IST
  • July 30, Sunday: Final (If India qualify) – 4:30 PM IST

This crucial event will serve as a litmus test, enabling us to identify areas for improvement, ultimately playing a pivotal role in our preparations for both the prestigious Asian Champions Trophy and the highly anticipated Asian Games,” India men’s team captain Harmanpreet Singh said ahead of the tournament.

Three teams will be in action in the Women’s event. The Savita Punia-led Indian side will face hosts Spain and England in the tournament. All the teams will be facing each other twice in the round-robin stage. For the Indian Women the tournament will be a warm-up event before the Asian Games.

India will get their campaign underway by facing England on 26th July. They will then face hosts Spai the next day. The Women in Blue will yet again face England and India on July 29 and 30.
