India taste first disappointment in Paris Olympics shooting, Ela/Sandeep & Arjun/Ramita fail in mixed event

The Indian rifle contingent will now turn their attention to the individual events, where they will look to make amends and secure medals for the country.

India’s Paris Olympic campaign got off to a disappointing start as both pairs in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event failed to qualify for the final. The duo of Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh, along with Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta, were unable to secure a place among the top four teams.

Early setback for India at Olympics

  • Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh finish 12th, with a total score of 626.3.
  • Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal finish 6th with a score of 628.7. The Indian duo fell short of Norway and Germany’s 629.7, who finished fourth and qualified for the bronze medal match.

Mixed Team event in Olympic Shooting

The mixed team event, a relatively new addition to the Olympic program, requires precision and teamwork. Each pair consists of a male and female shooter, who together take 60 shots in the qualification round. The top four teams progress to the medal round, where they compete for gold, silver, and bronze.

No Indian in medal round

Unfortunately, neither Indian pair could secure a place in the top 4, marking a disappointing start to the country’s Olympic campaign. The result will undoubtedly be a setback for the Indian shooting team, which had high hopes for the mixed team event.

The Indian contingent will now turn their attention to the individual events, where they will look to make amends and secure medals for the country.

With the rest of the shooting events still to come, India will be hoping for a turnaround in fortunes and a strong finish to the Olympic campaign.
