Saina Nehwal vs Chen Yu Fei

Immediately after the Lakshya Sen match, Saina Nehwal will go on to face Chen Yu Fei in a Round of 16 clash. It will be a tough match for the Indian veteran ace who will go toe-to-toe with the present World No. 3.

Saina didn’t have it easy in the previous game against Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt. She won her first set 21-17 but then the Danish ace came back strongly to take the 2nd set 21-12. However, with experience, Nehwal edged out 21-19 to win a thrilling contest. Saina began on a positive note and raced to 11-6 lead in the opening game before closing it without much ado. However, Blichfeldt stayed in control throughout the second game and it looked like the momentum had shifted toward the Dane.

However, Saina showed that she had enough and more in her reserves as she went on the offensive to counter her opponent’s attacking strokes and came up with a deceptive net shot to close the match.

The same can be said, about China’s Chen Yu Fei, who didn’t have it easy in her previous game. The World No.3, faced tough competition from Canada’s Michelle Li. The Chinese ace etched out a close-fought 21-19, 22-20 win to book a spot against India’s Saina Nehwal in the Round of 16 clash.

“Today the way I won the match, I think I am going back at matching the best players. It is always special to play in front of the crowd which loves cheering for you,” Saina Nehwal said after the match.
