January is bringing some exciting badminton action as India’s top players as Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu,are set to lead the country’s biggest-ever group of shuttlers at the upcoming Yonex-Sunrise India Open Super 750. BAI is hosting the India Open for the third time this year. This tournament will kick off on January 14 at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Indira Gandhi Stadium, in New Delhi. The tournament will be concluded on 19 January 2025.

Which International players are playing in India Open?

256 players from 28 countries are going to be part of this tournament. This year’s tournament promises to be thrilling with Olympic champions Viktor Axelsen and An Se Young, along with world No. 1 Shi Yuqi are all participating. Fans can look forward to seeing these top-tier international players compete on Indian courts. The tournament will feature:

  • 18 of the world’s top-20 men’s singles players
  • 14 of the world’s top-20 women’s singles players
  • Paris Olympics silver medallists Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang from China
  • Paris bronze medallists Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik from Malaysia
  • Leading men’s doubles teams from Denmark and Indonesia

A record 21 Indian players are gearing up to compete in this prestigious event, which offers 11,000 ranking points for the champions. The entry categories form India include Men’s singles (3), Women’s singles (4), Men’s Doubles (2), Women’s Doubles (8) and Mixed Doubles (4). Our homegrown talent for the tournament includes:

  • Men’s Singles: Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, and Priyanshu Rajawat
  • Women’s Singles: PV Sindhu, Malvika Bansod, Anupama Upadhyaya, and Aakarshi Kashyap
  • Men’s Doubles: Chirag Shetty/Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and K Sai Pratheek/Pruthvi K Roy
  • Women’s Doubles: Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand and seven other pairs
  • Mixed Doubles: Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto and three other pairs

India Open Prize money and past highlights

This year, the India Open 2025 boasts a total prize money of USD 950,000 (₹81.51 crore). Since the event was promoted to the Super 750 category in 2023, Indian players have achieved memorable results earlier in this tournament.

  • 2024: Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy reached the men’s doubles final.
  • 2024: HS Prannoy reached the men’s singles semifinals.

Chirag and Satwik, after a successful semifinal finish at the China Masters, aim to lead the men’s doubles category. Meanwhile, Satwik is eager to get back into top form following an injury recovery post the Paris Olympics.
