India Open 2025: Satwik-Chirag crash out in semis as India’s challenge ends

Satwik-Chirag fell short in the India Open 2025 semi-finals, losing to Goh-Izzuddin 18-21, 14-21, marking India's campaign end without a title.

India’s men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty exited the India Open 2025, losing to Indonesia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin 18-21, 14-21 in the semifinals on Saturday in New Delhi. This marks the second tournament this year where the Indian pair couldn’t reach the final, following their loss to South Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae at the Malaysia Open. With this loss, India’s campaign ends at the India Open 2025. Despite sending 21 players in the tournament, India sees no winner in the homeland.

Crowd came in big numbers

The KD Jadhav Indoor Hall was full, expecting a strong performance from Satwik and Chirag, who were successful in the Malaysia Open Super 1000 semi-finals earlier. Despite leading 15-12, Goh and Izzuddin pressed them at the net and took the first game. In the second game, the Indians briefly rallied with a five-point streak but ultimately struggled under Goh and Izzuddin’s aggressive play.

“I think we should have closed down in the first game but credit to them they were really good in the service situations, which we didn’t really expect because probably we didn’t prepare for it. Having said that, we should have been little more calmer,” said Chirag reflecting on the disappointing campaign.
