The Indian contingent made a rollicking start to the Paris Paralympics 2024, as medals came easy for some of the athletes. Four medals on the second day ensured India made a quick move into the Top-10 of the Paris Paralympics medals tally, surpassing the likes of Japan, and South Korea. India managed to clinch four medals — including one gold, a silver and two bronze medals.

Avani Lekhara Bags India’s First Gold at Paris Paralympics
Avani Lekhara, the Indian sharpshooter, bagged the team’s first gold medal at Paris 2024, in the women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event. She went on to bag the medal with a Paralympics record score of 249.7, bettering her own previous record of 249.6, set at Tokyo 2020. If that is not enough, Mona Agarwal went on to clinch the bronze in the same event.
Later in the day, Indian sprinter Preethi Pawar secured a historic bronze medal in the women’s 100m T35 category with a time of 14.21s. She was behind Japan and China in the event. The final medal of the day came from shooter Manisha Narwal, who secured a silver in the men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event with a total score of 234.9 points.
