India dominate U17 World Wrestling Championships with four gold medals in women’s freestyle

India's stellar performance at the U17 World Wrestling Championships highlights the strength and potential of the country's young female wrestlers. With four gold medals already in hand, these athletes have not only brought glory to the nation but also set the stage for a promising future in the world of wrestling.

India’s women’s freestyle wrestling team delivered a remarkable performance at the U17 World Wrestling Championships in Amman, Jordan, securing four gold medals in a show of strength and skill on Thursday. The young athletes demonstrated their prowess on the international stage, bringing pride to the nation with their victories.

Aditi Kumari Leads the Charge

The first gold for India came from Aditi Kumari in the 43 kg category. Aditi showcased her dominance in the final against Maria Louiza Gkika of Greece, securing a comprehensive 7-0 victory.

Her exceptional performance in the first half, where she established a strong lead with multiple full turns, set the tone for the rest of the match. Aditi maintained her advantage in the second half, finishing the bout without conceding a single point.

Neha Technical Superiority

Neha added to India’s gold tally in the 57 kg category with a commanding win over Japan’s So Tsutsui. Neha’s victory was achieved through technical superiority, as she outclassed her opponent with a decisive 10-0 scoreline.

This gold medal marks Neha’s second medal at the U17 World Championships, following a bronze in the previous year.

Pulkit Secures a Close Victory

In the 65 kg category, Pulkit secured India’s third gold medal with a hard-fought 6-3 win against Daria Frolova of Neutral Athletes.

The match was closely contested, but Pulkit’s strong defense in the final moments of the bout ensured her victory, demonstrating her resilience and tactical awareness.

Mansi Lather Finishing Touch

Mansi Lather capped off India’s golden run with a victory in the 73 kg final against Hanna Pirskaya. Lather claimed the gold with a decisive pin in the second half of the match, showcasing her strength and technique.

Her win not only added to India’s medal count but also underscored the depth of talent in the Indian women’s wrestling team.

Nail-Biting Semifinal Wins

Earlier in the day, Shrutika Shivaji Patil advanced to the final in the 46 kg category after a tense 2-1 semifinal victory over Medina Kuanyshbek of Kazakhstan. Shrutika’s impressive defense in the second quarter allowed her to narrowly escape with the win, setting up her chance for a gold medal.

Similarly, Kajal (69 kg) earned her place in the final with a close 4-3 semifinal win against Rahma Magdy Hosafy Bediwy of Egypt. Kajal’s determination in a tight contest ensured that she became the sixth Indian female wrestler to compete for gold at the event.

Tough Battles and Future Hopes

While the day was filled with victories, not all Indian wrestlers advanced to the finals. Bala Raj (40 kg) lost a close bout against Aleksandra Fedorova, with the match being decided by a successful challenge after full-time, resulting in a 3-4 defeat.

Muskan (53 kg) and Rajnita (61 kg), who lost in the quarterfinals, will compete in the repechage round, hoping to add to India’s medal count as their opponents have advanced to the final.

A Bright Future for Indian Women’s Wrestling

India’s stellar performance at the U17 World Wrestling Championships highlights the strength and potential of the country’s young female wrestlers. With four gold medals already in hand, these athletes have not only brought glory to the nation but also set the stage for a promising future in the world of wrestling.
