India Celebrates Neeraj Chopra’s Gold, President, PM, Celebs, lauds India’s Golden Boy, non-stop celebrations going at his home: Neeraj Chopra created history on Saturday as he became the first Indian athlete to win the gold medal in track and field events after he bagged the top podium spot in the Men’s javelin throw finals at the Tokyo Olympics. The 23-year-old, who had topped qualification, trumped his competition once again with a mammoth 87.58m throw. Neeraj became the first to win a medal in athletics since Norman Pritchard won in 1900, while it was India’s first gold medal since Abhinav Bindra’s win in 2008 Beijing.

Soon after Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal win, plaudits flew in from all corners for the Indian athlete, as the country basked on the 23-year-old great triumph. The President of India lauded Chopra and claimed his success as “unprecedented”. The Rashtrapati Bhavan’s official handle tweeted, “Unprecedented win by Neeraj Chopra!Your javelin gold breaks barriers and creates history. You bring home first ever track and field medal to India in your first Olympics. Your feat will inspire our youth. India is elated! Heartiest congratulations!”

India Celebrates Neeraj Chopra’s Gold: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Neeraj Chopra and said that his win will be remembered by the generations to come. The Indian PM tweeted, “History has been scripted at Tokyo! What @Neeraj_chopra1 has achieved today will be remembered forever. The young Neeraj has done exceptionally well. He played with remarkable passion and showed unparalleled grit. Congratulations to him for winning the Gold.”

India Celebrates Neeraj Chopra’s Gold: Anuraj Thakur, Anurag Thakur, Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs, also congratulated Neeraj Chopra and hailed his achievement. Thakur wrote, “India’s Golden Boy ! India’s Olympic History has been scripted! Your superbly soaring throw deserves a Billion Cheers ! Your name will be etched in the history books with golden letters.”

India Celebrates Neeraj Chopra’s Gold: Kiren Rijiju, the Minister of Law and Justice of India, said that Neeraj Chopra fulfilled Milkha Singh’s wish by winning a gold for India and hailed the 23-year-old’s effort on Saturday. Rijiju tweeted, “History has been made, Milkha Singh Ji’s wish is fulfilled as India wins first ever Olympic medal in Athletics! A golden moment 4 India as Neeraj Chopra won Olympic Gold medal for India at #Tokyo2020 Congratulations @Neeraj_chopra1 on this historic achievement!

India Celebrates Neeraj Chopra’s Gold: Abhinav Bindra, India’s sole individual gold medallist before Neeraj Chopra’s effort, healed Neeraj Chopra and welcomed him to the club. The former Olympian tweeted, “And Gold it is for @Neeraj_chopra1. Take a bow, young man ! You have fulfilled a nation’s dream. Thank you! Also, welcome to the club – a much needed addition! Extremely proud. I am so delighted for you.”

Ritu Phogat, a commonwealth medallist also lavished praise on Neeraj Chopra and hailed him as the “Golden Boy” of Tokyo Olympics. Phogat wrote, “Golden boy of Tokyo Olympics. Ohhhhh what a FireFireperformance.Congratulations Neeraj for achieving the impossible.”

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who hails Neeraj Chopra as his hero, was quick to hail the Indian ace and congratulated him on his gold. Nadeem, who finished fifth in the finals, tweeted, “Congratulations to #NeerajChopra for winning First place medal #JavelinThrow competition in #TokyoOlympics.”

Bengaluru FC shared a video of Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri glued to his screen watching Neeraj Chopra in action, and the striker hailed the 23-year-old as “India’s King.”

Former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Ashish Nehra, who are on commentary duty during India’s tour of England, were elated after Neeraj Chopra clinched the gold medal. Gavaskar broke into the famous “Mere Desh ki Dharti” song, while Nehra danced with joy as they cheered on the 23-year-old together. Watch the video here:
