However, things began to fall flat in the next couple of rounds with the Indian registering fouls in succession. During the time, other finalists started to perform with 8m plus jumps. The pressure was on Sreeshankar to get his A game in the finals, which never came.

Having registered a 8.36m in the year, one knew he would be able to deliver, but he failed when it mattered most. Of his six attempts, three of them were fouls and the other two legal jumps were 7.83 and 7.89. It capped of a disappointing show for India and Sreeshankar’s journey in the World Championships, where Jianan Wang delivered gold with a 8.36m jump.

Earlier, things did not go according to plan for both Parul Chaudhary and MP Jabir in the 3000m women steeplechase and 400m hurdles respectively. Parul might have achieved ger personal best in her event, but she could not even make it to the next round. To be fair, even achieving a PB is decent enough for her at such a prestigious event.

Jabir did not make much impression in his event as well. The 400m hurdler finished last in the second heat of the event. He registered a timing of 50.76, which was never going to be enough for him to make it into the next round.
