India at Tokyo Paralympics Day 4: Bhavina Patel creates history, set for Gold medal match; Rakesh Kumar advances; Shyam Sundar crashes out – Follow live updates: Bhavina Patel has assured India its first medal at the Paralympics in Tokyo. Patel entered finals of the Women’s Singles Class 4. This is the first medal ever for India in the sport of Table Tennis at the Paralympics for India. In Semifinal, Indian fought back to beat Zhang Miao (CHN) in 5 sets.
The Indian paddler enters a historic women’s singles Class 4 FINAL with a 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 11-8 victory over China’s Zhang Miao.
Rakesh Kumar also continued his good run of form on the Tokyo Paralympics Day 4 as he booked his progress into the next round. The veteran ParaArcher defeated Hong Kong’s Chuen K Ngai 144-131 in the men’s compound open 1/16 Elimination match to advance to the next round. Rakesh Kumar, who had finished 3rd in the ranking round, will be a huge medal hope and will feature in his next round on August 31st.

Meanwhile, Shyam Sundar Swami crashed out in the men’s individual compound round of 16 on Saturday. The ParaArcher had finished 21t in the ranking round but saw his journey cut short by USA’s Matthew Stutzman. In a closely contested game, the 2012 London Paralympics medallist sealed the tie and progressed further in the competition. Shyam Sundar shot 139, while Stutzman overpowered him by slotting 142 with his attempts.

India at Tokyo Paralympics – Day 4 LIVE Updates: The action will now shift towards Archery as Shyam Sundar and Rakesh Kumar will compete in the Men’s Individual Compound Open in the 1/16 Elimination. Shyam will be in action at 6:38 AM while Rakesh will compete at 8:52 AM.
In the track and field event medal event, Ranjeet Bhati will compete in the Men’s Javelin Throw F57 Final at 03:30 PM.
