Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar amassed 1167 (63x) points at an average of 9.725 after shooting 120 shots on the target in three positions while compatriot Sanjeev Rajput gathered 1157 (55x) in the qualifications but it was not good enough to make it to the top-8 players’ final.
In the evening, discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur put up a spirited display in her debut Olympic campaign but couldn’t win a medal as she finished at the sixth spot in the final with a best throw of 63.70m. Equestrian Fouaad Mirza and his horse Seigneur Medicott finished 23rd in the individual eventing jumping and missed out on a medal in the mega sporting event on Monday.

She was only the second among 31 athletes to secure direct qualification with a throw of 64m. Kaur is known for her monster throws and had qualified for the Tokyo Olympics with a throw of 65.06 metres during the Athletics Federation Cup earlier this year. The athlete from Punjab put in a career-best performance in the Indian Grand Prix in June, throwing a mammoth 66.59m. The 25-year-old will hope to secure a medal and should she make it to the top 3, Kaur will become the first Indian female to win a medal in athletics at the Olympics.

India at Tokyo Olympics LIVE Day 11: Sanjeev Rajput will be competing in his third Olympics, and perhaps his last at the age of 40. The veteran is yet to taste Olympic glory but will have his eyes set on the target when enters the Arena on Monday. Rajput is currently ranked 6th in the World, and won the silver at the 2019 ISSF World Cup. The 40-year-old is consistent but will need to up his game if he has to make the podium at the Tokyo Olympics.
Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar meanwhile is ranked No.2 in the world and is a favourite to finish on the podium. The 20-year-old won the bronze medal in 50-metre rifle three positions at the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships and also finished on the podium in the mixed team event. He also won the gold medal in the 2021 ISSF World Cup and will have high hopes to clinch a podium heading into his Olympics debut.
