Paris Paralympics Day 5: Sumit Antil smashes Paralympics record to take gold

Javelin thrower Sumit Antil will be in action today along with two badminton stars Nitesh Kumar and Thulasimathi Murugesan who will play in gold medal match for India.

Paris Paralympics LIVE: India began Day 5 with a silver medal in discus throw. Yogesh Kathuniya bagged the silver medal in Men’s discus throw F56 category. And now its Nitesh Kumar who has won gold medal in para-badminton in men’s singles SL4. India will look to further increase its medal tally at the Paris Paralympics later in the day.

Then, it was the turn of Thulasimathi Murugesan to deliver a silver for the country in the para badminton women’s singles SU5 category. She lost to Chinese Yang in straight games, while in the same division, Manisha Ramadass secured a bronze. Suhas Yathiraj, in a repeat final of the Tokyo Paralympics, lost to Lucas of France 21-9, 21-13 to get another silver for India.

Meanwhile, the day ended with Sumit Antil bagging a gold in men’s javelin F64 category. He smashed the Paralympics record with a massive throw of 70.59m.

  • Para Shooting: Nihal Singh and Amir Ahmed Bhat will compete in the P3 – mixed 25m pistol SH1 qualification (precision) and final.

    • Nitesh Kumar vs Daniel Bethell in the men’s singles SL3 gold medal match

  • Para Athletics: Deepthi Jeevanji will compete in the women’s 400m T20 round 1.
