IND vs PAK Davis Cup: India qualifies for World Group I after Bhambri & Myneni give 3-0 lead

With five matches scheduled to be played, India have already won their draw 3-0 and moved on to the World Group I tie, which will be played in September 2024.

India has sealed their spot in the World Group I after beating Pakistan 3-0 in the ongoing Davis Cup 2024 World Group I Play-Offs. Having won both of their singles ties on Day 1, India needed just one more win to seal their IND vs PAK Davis Cup tie 3-0. 

India seals the tie and moves to World Group I

Match 1

India’s top-ranked player (461), Ramkumar Ramanathan, defeated Pakistan legend Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi in three sets to give India the 1-0 lead. The unranked Pakistani took Ramanathan to tiebreakers in the first two sets, winning the first and losing the second. However, in the third set, there was just one-way traffic with Ramanathan bageling Qureshi.

Match 2

In their second match, N Sriram Balaji defeated Aqeel Khan in straight sets. The unranked players went at it in the first set, which was close (7-5). However, Balaji ran away with the second set with two breaks (6-3.

Match 3

Similar to their second tie, India won the third match with relative ease. Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni beat Aqeel Khan and Muzammil Murtaza in straight sets. In the first set, the Indian duo broke twice to take it 6-2. The second set was much closer, with no breaks of serve. But with momentum on their side, Bhambri and Myneni sneaked past the Pakistani duo 7-5 in their tiebreaker.

Match 1: Ramkumar Ramanathan beat Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi (6-7(3), 7-6(4), 6-0)

Match 2: N Sriram Balaji beat Aqeel Khan (7-5, 6-3)

Match 3: Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni beat Aqeel Khan and Muzammil Murtaza (6-2, 7-6(5))

Match 4: Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha vs Muhammad Shoaib (underway)
