Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has lodged a legal complaint over online harassment following her gold medal win in the Paris Olympics. The boxer was subjected to questions on her gender and her participation in women’s events in the Games. The complaint filed by Khelif is against the hate comments which included statements on her gender.

“All that is being said about me on social media is immoral. I want to change the minds of people around the world,” about her move to file a complaint.

Khelif further added, “For eight years, this has been my dream, and I’m now the Olympic champion and gold medalist,” as reported by the interpreter to AP.

Imane Khelif Controversy

Imane Khelif’s participation in the Olympics has been a subject of intense scrutiny due to her disqualification from the 2023 World Championships for failing to meet gender eligibility criteria. The International Boxing Association (IBA) conducted the tests but did not specify the reasons for the disqualification.

The IOC, however, has cleared Khelif to compete, stating that she meets the required criteria for female athletes. This disparity in regulations between the IBA and IOC has fueled the controversy surrounding the Algerian boxer.
