About Hockey India League 2024-25

The Hockey India League is returning after a seven-year break, featuring eight men’s teams and four women’s teams. This franchise-based league, inspired by cricket’s Indian Premier League (IPL), first launched in 2013, with the now-defunct Ranchi Rhinos claiming the inaugural championship by defeating the Delhi Waveriders in the final held in Ranchi.

The tournament continued to be hosted annually for the next four years, during which the Ranchi-based franchise, renamed Ranchi Rays, secured victory in the third season in 2015. The Waveriders won the second season after finishing as runners-up in 2014, while the Punjab Warriors and Kalinga Lancers triumphed in the 2016 and 2017 editions, respectively.
