Orleans Masters Badminton: Indian shuttler Sameer Verma has crashed out in the opening round of the Orleans Masters 2023. Verma had lead of 19-21 against Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen but couldn’t convert that lead and eventually lost 19-21, 21-19, 21-17. Mithun Manjunath and Priyanshu Rajawat have successfully progressed to the men’s singles 2nd round of the Orleans Masters badminton tournament. Manjunath moved forward after defeating a higher ranked Victor Svendsen of Denmark 24-22, 25-23 while Rajawat beat fellow compatriot Kiran George 21-18, 21-13. Manjunath will now play Taipei’s Yu Jen, who was lucky to progress after fifth seed Rasmus Gemke retired in the second game after Yu Jen won the first game 21-12 and led the second by 11-9.

Rajawat, on the other hand, will be up against top seed Kenta Nishimoto of Japan.

Nishimoto prevailed over Taipei’s Chia Hao Lee 21-18, 21-11.

B Sai Praneeth will start his men’s singles campaign against Malaysia’s Jun Hao Leong later in the day.

Women’s Singles action at Orleans Masters Badmintion

In the women’s section, Olympic medallist and former world number 3 Saina Nehwal will play Turkish qualifier Neslihan Yigit in the opening round in women’s singles.

Four other Indian female shuttlers will also be seen today in action in women’s singles first round match. Ashmita Chahliya vs Thet Htar Thuzar, Tasnim Mir vs Yvonne Li, Aakarshi Kashyap vs Natsuki Nidaira are still to be played. Whereas, Tanya Hemanth won her match against Léonice Huet 21-17, 21-18.
