How is Olympics 2024 opening ceremony different from previous ones?

Get ready, as the Paris Olympics are going to be different, starting from the beginning. The opening ceremony will be massive and quite different from previous ones.

The “Mother of All Sporting Events,” the Olympics, is all geared up to host more than 10,000 athletes across numerous events. But before that, we will witness the famous Olympic opening ceremony. This time, however, the opening ceremony is set to be different from previous ones. What features will make this ceremony unique?

For the first time, the opening ceremony will take place on the Seine River, which flows through the French capital. This marks a departure from the traditional stadium venues, breaking the norm.

Olympic athletes will see Paris most iconic places

As mentioned earlier, the opening ceremony will not take place inside the stadium. This time, over 10,000 athletes will travel by boat along the river. The boats will pass through Paris’ most iconic places, including Pont des Arts, Notre Dame, and Trocadéro near the Eiffel Tower. It is expected that the ride will start at Austerlitz Bridge and end at Trocadéro. At the end of the route, the Olympic torch will be lit. French President Emmanuel Macron is also expected to speak during this grand and unique opening ceremony.

“An opening ceremony has never been held outside of a stadium. There is no model; it’s an absolute creation,” opening ceremony artistic director Thomas Jolly told Associated Press.
