Hong Kong Open: Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand & Tanisha Crasto-Ashwini Ponnappa bow out

India's challenge at the Homg Kong Open has come to an end after Women's Doubles pairs Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand & Tanisha Crasto-Ashwini Ponnappa bowed out of the second round.

India’s challenge at the Hong Kong Open has come to an end. Women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand as well as Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa suffered losses in the second round on Thursday, 14th September 2023.

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand were no match for seventh seeds Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ranadhanti of Indonesia. The Indian pair lost the contest 8-21 14-21 in just 36 minutes in the second round at the Hong Kong Open.

The Indonesian duo had a flying start to the contest. They started off with a 5-0 lead in the opening game. They continued their dominance throughout as the Indians managed to get only eight points in the game.

In the second game, the Indians came back with a fight. It was a neck-to-neck battle initially as the scores were 7-7. However, at 9-8 to the Indonesian duo bagged six successive points to go up 15-8. From then on it became a one-way traffic as the Indians went on to lose.

Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa meanwhole lost 18-21, 7-21 to top seeds Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara of Japan in the second round at Hong Kong Open.

The contest between both the pairs began on a even note. The opening game was a tight affair as the scores were 13-13 at one stage. However the Japanese pair grabbed the momentum as they won four straight points to take the lead. It was enough for the top seeded duo to close out the game.

In the second game, the Japanese team dominated as they entered the interval with a massive 11-3 lead. They further extended their lead to 17-5 and comfortably won the contest to enter the quarterfinal.
