HIL prepares action-packed Return

The Hockey India League is finally resuming a long 7-year hiatus. The League promises that the new edition will bring some high-intensity games which will surely enthrall the fans. After an extensive auction, the 8 Men’s teams and 4 Women’s teams will take part in the tournament.

As for the format, for the Men’s tournament, Phase 1 will see all eight teams playing against one another which will continue till 19th January. Phase 2, however, will see the teams divided into two pools Pool A (Delhi SG Pipers, Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, Soorma Hockey Club, Vedanta Kalinga Lancers) and Pool B (Gonasika, Hyderabad Toofans, Tamil Nadu Dragons, UP Rudras).

In Phase 2, each team will face the opponents of their own pool, and the top 2 teams from each pool will move forward to the semi-finals which will take place on 21st January.

The Women’s format will be a bit different, owing to fewer teams. Each team will be facing their opponent twice. And from that, the top two placed teams will go on to lock horns in the finals.

“We are thrilled to reintroduce the HIL after a seven-year hiatus. This season promises high-caliber matches and intense competition, showcasing the best of Indian and international hockey talent. The launch of our new website brings fans closer to the action, but the true thrill lies in the journey ahead,” said Hockey India League Governing Committee Chairperson Dr Dilip Tirkey.
