Hockey India denies internal strife amidst resignations

In the lead-up to the Olympic year, Hockey India expressed its determination to rebuild the Women’s team with enhanced infrastructure and training. The organisation also pledged support to the National Men’s Team for a podium finish in the forthcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

In the wake of recent resignations within Hockey India, the organisation has come forward to dismiss reports of internal divisions. The departure of Indian women’s coach, Janneke Schopman, was followed by the resignation of Hockey India’s CEO, Elena Norman, who cited unpaid dues and a challenging work environment as reasons for her departure after 13 years in the role.

Former Hockey India CEO also stated that ongoing power struggle within Indian hockey between the president and secretary-general Bholanath Singh was one of the reasons for her to quit.

Hockey India CEO Elena Norman’s Resignation

While the official statement from Hockey India did not delve into the specifics of Norman’s resignation, a joint statement by Hockey India President, Dilip Tirkey, and Hockey India Secretary-General, Bhola Nath Singh, emphasised the organisation’s commitment to the welfare and progress of Indian hockey.

The statement highlighted Hockey India’s dedication to developing the sport and supporting athletes. It reiterated the focus on talent growth, professional event management, and providing national teams with optimal support for global performance.

No Division

Addressing the reported divisions within the organisation, the statement clarified that such claims were inaccurate. The leadership affirmed their unity, working together in the best interests of the sport. The Federation asserted its commitment to treating teams and players equally, ensuring parity in benefits, training facilities, cash awards, and recognition based solely on performance.
