He Bing Jiao honours Carolina Marin with Spanish pin after winning silver at Paris Olympics

An Seyoung of South Korea defeated China's He Bingjiao to claim the gold medal in the women's badminton singles final.

Badminton player He Bing Jiao showed her support and respect for Carolina Marin on Monday at the Paris Olympics. He Bing Jiao, who defeated PV Sindhu in the quarterfinals, did not play in the semifinals and was granted a direct entry into the final due to Carolina Marin suffering an ACL tear, which forced her to withdraw from the tournament midway.

On Monday, world number 1 An Se Young won the singles gold medal in badminton at the Olympics, defeating China’s He Bing Jiao in straight games, 21-13, 21-16, at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena.

Following the loss, He Bing Jiao accepted the silver medal and also held a Spanish badge out of respect for Carolina Marin during the medal ceremony.

Tunjung gets bronze

Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung claimed the bronze medal after losing to An Se Young, as Carolina Marin’s exit from the tournament had affected the draw.
