India’s long-distance runner Gulveer Singh continues to impress by breaking the men’s 5000m Indoor National Record. At the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational 2025, Gulveer clocked the time of 12:59.77s. This achievement not only set a new national record but also broke the 13-minute barrier for the first time by an Indian runner. Additionally, he set a new Asian 5000m short track record. Gulveer’s performance secured him a spot in the World Athletics Championships, exceeding the qualifying standard of 13:01.00s.
Gulveer Singh’s record in 3000m
Just a week prior, at the same event, the 26-year-old created a national record in the men’s 3000m, finishing the race in 7:38.26s. This time shattered the 2008 record set by Surendra Singh by more than 11 seconds. Though Gulveer placed fourth in the 5000m race, trailing behind Cole Hocker, Cooper Teare, and Jack Rayner, his great performance stands out.

Gulveer Singh’s past achievements
Gulveer had previously set a new national record in the men’s 10,000m event at Japan’s Hachioji Long Distance 2024 meet, surpassing his own record and breaking Surendra Singh’s 2008 record. His previous best in the 5000m was 13:11.82s. Despite narrowly missing qualification for the Paris Olympics, his latest accomplishments will surely boost his confidence as he prepares for future competitions. All national records await ratification by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), but Gulveer’s consistent progression marks him as a notable figure in Indian athletics.
