German Open Badminton: After a month long break, the BWF Tour is all set to resume with the German Open. The BWF Super 300 event will be the fifth tournament in the BWF Tour this year. It will kickstart on 7th March 2023, Tuesday. Players like World No.4 Lee Zii Jia, Japanese No.1 Kodai Naraoka, Kunlavudt Vitidsarn, Women’s World No.1 Akane Yamaguchi will all be in action in the tournament. India’s Lakshya Sen is in the first quarter of the draws. The World No.12 is the sixth seed in the tournament. He will begin his campaign in the tournament by facing France’s Christo Popov in the first round.
Lakshya’s first big challenge in the tournament is likely to be the top seed Lee Zii Jia. The Malaysia is the only other seeded player in the quarter ad both the players are likely to meet in the quarterfinals.
Mithun Manjunath is in the third quarter of the draws. He was recently crowned as the National Champion and will aim to carry his form into the Super 300 event. He will however face an uphill task against Loh Kean Yew in the first round. Kean Yew is the fourth seed in the tournament.

Saina Nehwal was initially part of the draws, but she has withdrawn from the tournament. Malvika Bansod is the top-ranked player from India in the Women’s Singles. Bansod is in the first quarter of the Women’s draw and the Indian will face China’s fifth seed Wang Zhi Yi in the first round.
Tasnam Mir has also qualified for the main draw after playing the qualifier. She will face eighth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong in the first round. The Thailand player is the eighth seed.
Mixed Doubles
India’s Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappoa are the only doubles players from India in the tournament. They are set to play in Mixed Doubles. Apart from them none of the Indians are in the main draw of both the Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles.
Reddy and Ponnappa will be playing their second tournament this year. The unseeded duo find themselves in the fourth quarter of the draws. They will face Scotland’s Andrew Hall and Julie MacPherson in the first round. Second seeded pair Thom Giquel and Delphine Delrue are also present in the same quarter.
